The Smell of Fall is in the Air

I cannot believe that school is starting next week! It seems like we have so much summer left. Since the weather has officially taken a turn for the worse these past couple of days, I do feel like fall is quickly approaching. Before we know it, the leaves will be falling and we'll be hearing the distant voices of children saying "trick or treat" on our doorsteps! :) I will miss summer!!

Since I have written last, a lot has happened with jobs and our house. First of all, Kevin is no longer assigned to teach computers this year. He will be teaching freshman algebra again in the same school in the same classroom next door to the same teacher! He was very pleased to get the phone call! I can't believe he is going into his third year of teaching. That is awesome!! I wish I was going into my third year of teaching. I haven't even had my first. :( I have not found a permanent teaching job for this year and it sucks!! I will, however, be teaching 4th grade at Oakridge Upper Elementary as a long-term sub starting in about a week and half probably. It really depends on when the teacher goes into labor, I could start earlier or later than planned. I am very excited though. I was able to meet the majority of students at the open house and see several students I had from student teaching when they were in 1st grade! Crazy how time flies. I pray and hope that I will be able to find another long-term sub. job later in the year.

As far as our house goes, we have made some changes. Our yard is looking better every day. It's so nice to have underground sprinkling. The dirt and soil are looking great and the grass is getting greener!!  A couple of weeks ago, we purchased 3 trees! We were very excited about this since our yard was treeless. It will, of course, take awhile for them to grow big but I am happy that we have them and will finally begin to get some shade in our yard.

We had new neighbors move in next door about a month ago. They are great people! The neighbors on the other side of us moved out in July and moved south for jobs. The house has been on the market since then and hasn't yet sold. We are eager to see someone purchase it so the yard can be taken care of ... lol. We are really hoping we will get some great neighbors on that side of us as well.

School starts Tuesday. Have a great Labor Day weekend! :)

Busy Busy Busy....

The summer so far has been incredibly busy. The last time I wrote was before summer had even officially began. We've had a lot of things going on around here that I haven't even had a chance to sit down and update our blog. Today I was lucky enough to have the day off of work and the house to myself so I can clean and do some other things I've been wanting to do.

We found out that Kevin has a teaching job for next year! Praise the Lord! Right now he is assigned to teach computers for 6th-8th grades. He will be at his third school in his three years of teaching. He is in the same district still so that is good. There is, however, a really good chance that he will be back at the high school teaching Algebra again. We are waiting to hear about that. But we are happy that he has something lined up so either way, he will still be teaching. I am waiting to hear about some openings at some schools that I applied to. One school looks very promising but I will not say where until things are settled.

Since Kevin was called back for next year, his big sprinkler project was started and finished in about 3 weeks! He worked very hard every day of those three weeks. It must have been the hottest days we've had all summer. We had a lot of help during this project which we were thankful for. I helped Kevin wrap up the work in the front yard and we were so excited when we could turn the sprinklers on! No more dragging a hose around!! Because of the finished project and the fact that we didn't go anywhere for our 2nd anniversary, we decided to get out of town and visit Traverse City for a couple of days. We had a nice relaxing trip. It was great to get away and have a little vacation!

Kevin is wrapping up his work at the City of Norton Shores. He has about a week and a half left then he will be teaching summer school. That will be nice for him because he will be working Monday through Friday until about noon every day. :) I am staying busy working for my dad. This seems to be a very busy summer for him and a lot of work for me.

We have a lot more planned for the summer and are looking forward to all that is ahead of us. :)

What's Next???

As the spring nears the end, well what we've had of it anyway. It doesn't even seem like there ever was a spring, it's like winter jumped right to summer! It's been beautiful and summer is our favorite season so I'm not complaining by any means but it has been h-o-t ... HOT!!! So anyway, as spring nears the end and summer fastly approaches, our lives will become busier. I can tell summer is quickly on it's way as we've been busier and busier!!  I have a tan and today is only the first of June!!  This past weekend was filled with several activities and excitement as we celebrated Memorial Day! We had a great time at the hot dog roast at church Sunday night with great company. It's always a great time had by all. The fireworks were the same old thing, as it is every year, but it's always nice to have a chance to soak up the sun and chat with close friends. We were able to spend some time with our sister-in-law, nephew, and niece (although she slept the whole time) at the parade in Fruitport on Monday! We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner with Kevin's parents.  I forgot to mention that we also spent some time with some good friends, Sarah and Jordon, whom we don't often see. So it was great to see them and spend time with them enjoying a great meal and a wonderful campfire! :)

Kevin's spring grad class is coming to an end. He has one more weekend of class and he's done! LUCKY!!!  I have 3 1/2 more weeks to go!  It has, however, gone by very fast. I'm already half way done and have one major project turned in and ready to start another! I have learned many interesting things in my grad class: Teaching Writing! I have already come away with several great ideas to use in a classroom which I hope to have next year (fingers crossed there will be a lot of openings)!

We are impatiently (well maybe just me) waiting to hear about Kevin's job for next year. I am anxious to know as is he but he doesn't really show it. He is way more patient than me! I am constantly searching daily for teaching jobs for myself for next year. I'm praying and hoping something will open for me! Lord knows I need a teaching job!!  I have a feeling that this will be my year. Let's hope that inkling is right.

We have so many things going on this summer. I hope we can fit everything in we want to do and see everyone we want to see. Our summer has just begun and it isn't even here yet (technically) until June 21, which also happens to be our 2 year anniversary!! :)

We have a niece!

After having 3 nephews, it is going to be nice to have a little girl in the family! :)  Our niece, Myla Rose, was born on May 17.  She is healthy and happy.  I don't think Remy knows what to think of his little sissy.

The Joys of Grad Classes!

Well, I started my Teaching Writing class last night and it looks like it is going to be a lot of work!  I have 2 major projects/assignments, readings, and a blog to keep up on.  I'm sure it will be fun once my projects are underway, let's hope so anyway.  I stayed home today so I could get my reading done and my first big project started since I have 2 drafts due Wednesday night!  I haven't had homework in awhile so I hope I can get used to it again and I hope that the class will fly by!  I have 6 1/2 weeks of this class and then I'll be done with classes until the fall!

Kevin starts his class on Friday night.  I wonder if he'll have as much work as I do?  I guess we'll have to wait and see.  He's lucky though because he only has to meet 6 times (3 weekends) and he's done.

Well, we only have 4 weeks of school left!  I am still waiting on that call from Muskegon Christian.  Last I heard, they were still viewing applications so I'm waiting to hear if they've made any other progress lately.  I've been praying daily about getting a call from them.  I really need a teaching job next year.  If I don't get one, I'm not sure what I am going to do.  I don't know what my next step will be.

May 9

Tomorrow is Kevin's 26th birthday! :)  He gets to share his special day with his mom  (and all other mothers), since it is on Mother's Day.

Today, Kevin aerated the lawn and he is planting grass seed tomorrow.  He has been putting soil down and the lawn is looking so much better.  I can't wait until the backyard is looking good.  It will probably take awhile though.

We found out last week that our neighbor is moving out of state as he has accepted a job.  That means we will have another house for sale in our neighborhood and will have two empty houses next to us, one on each side. So if anyone is interested in purchasing a nice and newer house, come look next to us. :)

New Layout

I have updated the blog.  I think it looks much more appealing and inviting.  I hope you enjoy the new look. :)

Kevin has just started a blog for his classes.  If you are interested in reading it, go to klassensclass.blogspot.com.
